Technical Assistance for Applicants

Where can I obtain technical assistance in filling out the application?
There are two ways of obtaining technical assistance for completing the SAFER application: the SAFER Grant Program Help Desk and the online SAFER Tutorial for Applicants.

SAFER Grant Program Help Desk. Use the toll-free information line at
1-866-274-0960 to ask questions about the grant program and the application. Normal business hours for the Help Desk are Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EDT. During the application period (May 31 to June 28), the Help Desk will be staffed between the hours of 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. EDT, Monday through Friday; however, these hours may change as the application period progresses. The toll-free number also will accept voicemail messages after hours or if the line is busy. Questions also may be sent to a toll-free fax line at 1-866-274-0942, or e-mailed to FireGrants@dhs.gov.

SAFER Tutorial for Applicants. An online tutorial also is available to assist applicants in completing the automated SAFER application. This tutorial explains the grant program priorities and eligibility criteria and provides tips for navigating the application screens. There are two versions of the tutorial: enhanced and text. The enhanced version is designed for people with high-speed Internet connections and features a narrator. The text version is designed for those with dial-up modem Internet connections and has no sound.
